Exorbitant Privilege The Rise And Fall Of The Dollar
The United States is a powerful country with a powerful economy. It has a huge presence in the international market and this is due primarily to its exorbitant privilege. Exorbitant privilege is the benefit that the US is able to enjoy due to the dollarââ¬â¢s status as the currency used for international reserves. Many economists have criticized this privilege of the US, including Barry Eichengreen. Eichengreen presents the argument that the dollar should not be the only currency that is used in the International Monetary System (IMS) and that despite its history, it no longer has a reason to be the only currency in the global economy, believing that the IMS would benefit from having multiple international currencies. He argues this by presenting the history of the economies throughout the world that have led to this point. His presents his argument in his book Exorbitant Privilege: The Rise and Fall of the Dollar and the Future of the International Monetary System. The dollar is the most widely used and most influential currency throughout the globe. This has allowed it to do many things including having other countries rely on it. This allows the US to exert its influence internationally. This also lets the US keep the possibility of a balance of payments crisis near improbable. This is because other countries trust in the dollar and its safety. When other countries buy our bonds or provide loans, they do so in dollars. Essay on Infancy and Early Childhood Development - 1654 Words
Infancy and Early Childhood Development PSY/375 March 14, 2011 Kris Scott-Graves Infancy and Early Childhood Development Infancy and early childhood are referred to as those immature years of life and the stage at which most of a childââ¬â¢s development occurs. To strengthen the development of a childââ¬â¢s learning one must understand the physical and mental factors that affect a childââ¬â¢s development through observation and interaction. Development begins during the prenatal period on up to the early years and depends on the nutritional, medical, emotional, and intellectual support of parents, family members, caregivers, and teachers (Cherry, 2011). Parenting styles also play a role in what influences development as well as early childhoodâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦This study of parenting and its effects on children displayed many aspects of parenting such as strategies of discipline, parental nurturance, styles of communication, and oneââ¬â¢s level maturity and control. Observation from such dimensions created what is known as the four styles of parenting. Authoritarian Parenting Authoritarian parenting was a style of parenting that expected children to follow the rules and obey. Good behavior was rewarded; whereas, bad behavior was punished. This style of parenting felt as though they needed to give no reason other than ââ¬Å"they said so.â⬠Communication between parent and child was minimal with no response to child. Children who grew up from this type of parenting ranked lower in happiness, social competence, and self-esteem. Children are not allowed to make their own choices and given limited freedom. Authoritative Parenting Authoritative parenting is similar to that of authoritarian in terms of establishing rules and guidelines to follow, but much more democratic. However, this style of parenting is more responsive to their children. Though standards are set high there is room for decision-making. Parents are more willing to listen to their children and be more supportive rather than punitive. This style of parenting tends to result in happier children. These children tend to achieve higher grades in school, and have less social problems. Question: Discuss about the Big Data Opportunities and Challenges. Answer: Introduction In this paper we are going to focus on the emerging trend of big data analytics on the two case studies which are undertaken. The case study one focuses on the efficiency and effectiveness of the big data analytics in the field of health care system. The second case study describes the use of big data analytics by the semiconductor manufacturing organization. The focus of the paper is to translate the use of big data analytics by the different sector in the working curriculum of their organization. The evolution of big data analytics has completely transforms the working structure of the semiconductor manufacturing industry. The use of big data semantics by the organization in their working infrastructure helps in improving the work based environment of the company by detecting the occurrence of the fault, increasing the capabilities by using effective technology, making use of predictive maintenance program, and etc. The technological gaps of the organization can be filled by using the big data analytics environment. The working quality of the enterprise can be improved by exploring the quality of data provided for the development of the quality solution and using the fundamentals of online expertise. The need of big data analytics is for the semiconductor manufacturing industry because it helps in managing the streamlining process of supply chain in managing raw material according to the demand of the project, coordination between online and offline tools, flexibility in retrieving required information, promotion of the product through the online tools, use of real object virtually, and increasing the decision making capabilities of the manager. The five objectives of the big data which are variety, velocity, volume, value, and veracity helps in improving and adding new capabilities to the existing system. During the initial stages of transforming the working tactics with the big data, company faces many challenge and problems due to the increase of complexity in the designing process of manufacturing product (Osuszek, 2016). Traditionally, the designing of the product was done on the 2D environment but with the inclusion of 3D data analytics The big data analytics is required du e to the faster growth of internet of things, mobile device, advanced version of smart device, and inclusion of artificial intelligence system (Weilki, 2013). The capability of the manufacturing can be enhanced by transforming the working environment with the ease of handling big data efficiently. The applicability of the big data analytics in the field of manufacturing semiconductor can be followed the following road map which focuses on 5V model of the big data. It helps in managing the quality and merging of the data application to improve the level of the designing process. The semiconductor device should have the capabilities of handling data required for sensor network as the growth of the technology. The enterprise resource planning helps in updating the manufacturing execution system of the organization (Raghupathi, 2014). The capabilities of the system can be improved with the inclusion of big data analytics in advance process control system of the enterprise. Advance process control system of the organization is comprised of various terminologies which should be updated with the use of big data analytical platform (Halaweh, 2011). The terminologies of the APC system are fault detection system which is used for detecting anomalies, classification of the fault is used for determining the reason or cause, prediction of the fault is used for the monitoring of the process for analysing the anomalies in the system, deployment of the run to run control for improving the processing power of the system, statistical process control is used for achieving the control on the process, equipment health monitoring tools is used for analysing the working condition of the equipment used for processing, predictive maintenance program helps in providing proactive maintenance, scheduling procedure can be effectively impr oved with the use of predictive maintenance program, virtual memory is used for handling the sensor data information, and prediction of product manufacturing. The st udy of the given dimensions helps in increasing the capabilities of the different section. The inclusion of principle component analysis helps in analysing the application. The coordination between the big data analytics and APC application helps in focusing on the false of the processes during the supervision of the data, managing correlation between different processes, resetting of the dynamic model, and setting of the time required for the completion of the process. The detection of the anomalies can be effectively done with the help of big data analytics in the process control block of the semiconductor manufacturing industries. Smart manufacturing of the semiconductor devices can be effectively done by the inclusion of big data analytics in the manufacturing process of the organization (EY Advisory Service, 2014). The effectiveness of big data helps in development of integration policies between the processes related to the supply chain management system, optimizing flexibility in the manufacturing operations, and traceability of the processing program. The inclusion of cyber physical system in the manufacturing processes of the semiconductor devices helps in bringing coordination among the physical resources with the help of computation processes. The virtual environment of the business processes focuses on predicting the faults and the outcome in the process driven program undertaken by the company. The infrastructure of data processing should be completely changed from 2D environment to 3D environment. The capability of the manufacturing can be enhanced by transforming the working environment with the ea se of handling big data efficiently (Hajli, 2017). The applicability of the big data analytics in the field of manufacturing semiconductor can be followed the following road map which focuses on 5V model of the big data. The use of big data semantics by the organization in their working infrastructure helps in improving the work based environment of the company by detecting the occurrence of the fault, increasing the capabilities by using effective technology, making use of predictive maintenance program, and etc. From the study of the given case study on the semiconductor manufacturing industry we are able to highlight the effectiveness of big data environment for handling the business process for predicting the fault and the outcome of the process proactively so that the gaps of the business processes undertaken should be removed before implementation which helps in retrieving the prescribed output without any distraction (Fuzitsu, 2014). The use of dynamic equipment in the virtual environment helps in improving the quality, accuracy, availability, and reliability of the data used in the completion of the manufacturing process. The fault detection and the predictive maintenance features of the big data analytics helps in creating the robust maintenance solution for the company to provide best manufacturing practices. It helps in managing the quality and merging of the data application to improve the level of the designing process. The case study two focuses on the use of big data analytics in the field of health care centre. The objective of this study is to look on the operational capabilities of the big data to handle the functionality of the health care system with ease and effectiveness. The health care industry is having large volume of data in the form of patient record which has to be kept synchronously so that it can be retrieved by the user at any time and at any corner of the global world. The new technology is required providing the quality output with minimum cost to increase the capability of decision making and helps in providing instantaneous health service to the patient on demand. The complexity of the health care system can be resolved with the implementation of the big data analytics for handling the scheduling of the patient record on the online portal of the application so that it can be fetched by the doctor or the patient according to the requirement. The big data analytics helps in mana ging the records of the data in the scheduled and the synchronous order. The electronic patient records include the details of previous prescription, including laboratory details, pharmacy, and data related to the insurance policy. This newer technology is helpful in saving millions of life by providing accurate information of the patient at the time of need without wasting a moment of second which is crucial for the life of the patient at the time of emergency. The expert doctors can also participate through videoconferencing to resolve the serious condition of the patient by studying all the previous reports and prescription of the patient. The need of big data analytics arises for the management of online patients health records to handle the situation of emergency by the experts sitting at their respective places and the provided with the immediate treatment which helps in saving the life of the patient. The digitization of the health record helps in managing integration between various hospitals. The early detection of the disease can be possible due to the sharing of experience by the various experts. The records of the patient is managed over the portal throughout the life of the patient so whenever there is a need of older records than it is easy to retrieve through the concept of big data analytics. The consultation from the various doctors can be taken by sharing the reports of the patient by them. The deployment of the big data an alytics in the working curriculum of the health care system helps in minimizing the cost spend by the patient on his treatment by managing all the previous records of test and simultaneously consultation from various experts at a time. The availability of statistical data of the patient records open the door for exploring the research area to diagnose the symptoms of the disease predicted in the patient. The knowledge of possible causes helps in taking action to take preventive measures of that particular disease. The research study on the big data is come up with possible solution to resolve the health issue related to the disease. The fraud with the patient records can be easily detected (Accenture report, 2014). The real time analysis of the large volume helps in knowing the case of emergency and the quick first aid can be provided according to the need of the patient at the destination place. The 4 Vs characteristics of the big data are applied on the health care system. The Volume characteristic helps in managing the large data of record of the patient for easy retrieval. The velocity is applied for providing the data on the demand of the user and maintaining the flow of data between the sender and receiver. The variety is applied for accumulated various types of information of the patient at one place. The real time monitoring of the portal provides the information related to the person who is in need of quick treatment. The matching of the old data and the new data can be effectively done with the use of big data analytics. The reliable and accurate information is provided to the user end (CGMA Report, 2011). The visualization techniques can be easily applied for measuring the statistica l data. The warehousing of the data can be effectively done with the use of newer technology. The coordination in the management of data helps in avoiding faults in the presentation of the data. The decision making capabilities of the doctors and experts can be increased by the online retrieval of the information. The distributed processing is applied on the data available on different warehouses to get the accurate information of the patient from various sources. The map-reduce technology is applied on the data available on the Hadoop file system for managing big data of the health care system. The implementation of the map-reduce algorithm helps in eliminating the complexity from the data management statistical support. The open source tools are utilized for making the user-friendly environment for the data driven policies. There are various sources of big data in the health care system which are categorised as internal sources, external sources, multiple geographical location, and multiple distributed application environment. The transformation of the big data into the useful information can be possible with the implementation of data warehouse. Various tools are applied to the transformations of data into useful information such as map reduce protocol in the Hadoop file system environment, zookeeper, avro, hive, and many others (Peristeris, 2011). The accessing of the big data can be done through various applications like in the form of queries, data mining techniques, OLAP system, and generation of reports. The decision support system of the health care depends on the availability of the digital health records of the patient. There are some negative consequences of using big data analytics in the health industry. The success of the big data handling depends on the accurate and reliable retrieval of i nformation from various sources. Privacy is the main concern on managing digital health records of the patient on the network (Rankin, 2015) .The attacker has the possibility to retrieve confidential information of the patient from the digital records (Alam, 2014). The security and the cryptographic approach should be used for securing the private information of the user from data leakages. The lack of using technological equipment in collecting information can cause the problem of accuracy in the data uploaded in the health record of the patient. The accuracy of the information posted on the electronic record of the patient should be verified so that no chance of fraud can occur. The government standards should be followed for managing the ethical laws on the platform of big data analytics associated with the health care centre. Conclusion From the analysis of the case studies, it is concluded that big data analytics helps in managing the large volume of data on the network with accuracy and reliability. During the course of action plan, the security concern should be taken under consideration. The cryptographic approach should be used for securing the data on the network to be leaked by the third party. The confidential information of the user should be remaining private. The security procedure should be laid down for the successful implementation of the big data analytics in the working curriculum of the enterprise. Reference: Accenture report. (2014). Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Essays - , Term Papers
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or Hyperactivity (ADHD), disorder beginning in childhood, characterized by a persistent inability to sit still, focus attention on specific tasks, and control impulses. Children with ADHD show these behaviors more frequently and severely than other children of the same age. A person with ADHD may have difficulty with school, work, friendships, or family life. ADHD has also been referred to as attention-deficit disorder, hyperkinesis, minimal brain dysfunction, and minimal brain damage. Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder is one of the most common mental disorders of childhood, affecting 3 to 5 percent of school-age children. The disorder occurs at least four times more often in boys than in girls. Although the symptoms sometimes disappear with age, ADHD can persist into adolescence and adulthood. Some estimates show that up to 2 percent of adults have ADHD. II DIAGNOSIS Diagnosing ADHD is difficult because most children are inattentive, hyperactive, and impulsive at least some of the time. In diagnosing ADHD, experts use guidelines listed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. These guidelines require that a child show behaviors typical of ADHD before the age of seven. The behaviors must last for at least six months, and must occur more frequently than in other children of the same age. The behaviors also must occur in at least two settings, such as classroom and home, rather than just at a single setting. Controversy exists over the diagnosis of ADHD. Physicians in the United States diagnose the disorder more often than doctors elsewhere in the world. Critics regard this discrepancy as evidence that physicians and psychologists too often apply psychiatric labels to children who are naturally more active or simply nuisances to teachers and parents. III CHARACTERISTICS Children and adults with ADHD consistently show various degrees of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsiveness. Inattention means that people with ADHD have difficulty keeping their minds on one thing. They may get bored with homework or other tasks after a few minutes, make careless mistakes, have trouble listening, and seem to daydream. However, children with ADHD sometimes can concentrate on and complete new or unusually interesting tasks. Hyperactivity involves almost constant motion, as if driven by a motor. Children may squirm and fidget at their desks in school, get up often to roam around the room, constantly touch things, disturb other people, tap pencils, and talk constantly. ADHD also makes children unusually impulsive, so that they act before thinking. They may run into the street without looking, blurt out inappropriate comments in class, interrupt conversations, and be unusually clumsy or accident-prone. Children with ADHD often have severe learning problems because of their difficulties in paying attention, following instructions, and completing tasks. In addition, their disruptive, demanding behavior makes them unpopular with peers. Children with ADHD often receive constant criticism and correction from teachers and parents, who believe the behavior, is intentional. The combination of negative feedback, poor academic achievement, and social problems may contribute to low self-esteem and other emotional problems. IV CAUSES Scientists do not know what causes ADHD. However, they have discredited many theories that once were widely accepted. One theory contended that ADHD resulted from minor head injuries or undetectable brain damage due to infections or complications during birth. Experts called ADHD "minimal brain damage" and "minimal brain dysfunction" when this theory was popular in the early 1970s. Another theory linked ADHD with consumption of refined sugar and food additives. Scientists questioned this theory when studies showed that few children with ADHD benefited from diets restricting sugar and food colorings. Most experts also reject the idea that poor parenting or a dysfunctional home environment causes ADHD. Most scientists regard ADHD as a biological disorder caused by abnormalities in the brain. Studies have shown that areas of the brain that control attention span and limit impulsive behavior are less active in people with ADHD. In addition, ADHD seems to run in families, suggesting that genetic factors may play an important role (seeGenetics). One study showed that about one-third of fathers who had ADHD in childhood have children with ADHD. V TREATMENT Although there is no cure for ADHD, a variety of treatments may help children with this disorder. These include medication, counseling, social skills training, and other methods. A Medication Drugs are the most common treatment for ADHD and can help reduce symptoms of the disorder. Physicians usually prescribe one of three drugs: methylphenidate (Ritalin), dextroamphetamine (Dexedrine or DextroStat), and pemoline (Cylert). These drugs are normally stimulants, yet they ease hyperactivity and other symptoms in 90 percent of children with ADHD. The drugs work by altering levels of neurotransmitters,

Geography A2 Exam Question Essay Example
Geography A2 Exam Question Essay Example Geography A2 Exam Question Essay Geography A2 Exam Question Essay Discuss the impacts of storm events in the British Isles and evaluate the responses to them (40 marks) - - - The British Isles has a cool temperate western maritime climate including four seasons and various weather conditions. Storms come and go some so weak they are unnoticed and some bring in heavy winds and torrential rain and thunder. Depressions are areas of low atmospheric pressure which produce cloudy, rainy and windy weather. These low-pressure systems often begin in the Atlantic, moving eastwards towards the UK. They are responsible for the UKs changeable weather. A storm event we will look at in the British Isles happened in 1987. The storm struck the South West amp; South East of England which devastated buildings and left 12 people dead. This global location is prone to depressions. The storm was initially directed towards northern France and Europe but veered up to the U. K. The sea water from the surrounding ocean flooded peopleââ¬â¢s homes causing people to flee their homes and evacuate. This cost England thousands of pounds including insurance claims. The surrounding tide from the sea was said to have raised by around 2 to 3 meters. : Approximately 40 mm of rain and hail fell in the course of a few hours. The main cause of deaths was mainly from flooding and high wind speeds ââ¬â up to 108mph. Anything loose was flying around including roof tiles and debris. - - The main primary impacts were homes damaged by strong winds and flooding of properties. The National Grid sustained heavy damage during the event, as crashing cables began to short circuit and overheat the main system. Many windows of houses were also broken. Slates from roofs of buildings came crashing down which resulted in everyone trapped indoors. Another primary impact was the damage and uprooting of thousands of trees, An estimated 15 million trees were lost. The sewers and sewage systems were flooded, creating dark colored flood waters. This also lead to water contamination and diseases being spread more easily. - We can see how great the impact of the 1987 storm was by comparing it to Hurricane Katrina. Hurricane Katrina formed over the Bahamas on August 23rd, 2005 and crossed southern Florida as a Category 1 hurricane, causing some deaths and flooding there before strengthening rapidly in the Gulf of Mexico. The hurricane strengthened to a Category 5 hurricane over the warm Gulf water, but weakened before making its second landfall as a Category 4 hurricane with sustained winds of 125 mph on the morning of Monday, August 29th in Louisiana. The hurricane covered over 500km area and went approximately 160 miles inland. As a result of hurricane Katrina, damage to the U. S was approximately $80 billion nearly triple the damage brought by Hurricane Andrew in 1992. However, in New Orleans 2,000 people died as opposed to 12 in Britain. The structure of the buildings in the area was good with well built concrete housing, this resulted in fewer deaths. The number of deaths could have been far higher as the depression was not as strong as the USA hurricane. The impacts in the USA was far greater than that of the UK.At least 1,800 people died in the hurricane with consequential floods. The hurricane had an 8. 5m high storm surge which resulted in large amounts of widespread flooding across hundreds of miles. This caused surface waves to be amplified and increased the height further. Almost every death was a result from the flooding with a few from collapsed buildings. - - Looking at the responses to the storms of the British Isles, we can see that no evacuation took place. This may be because Britain was not expecting a huge storm such as this. The British Isles did not have a hurricane warning system which on the other hand New Orleans did have such a system in place. The 1987 storm in the U. K was a very rare event and no one was prepared for it. A storm of this strength and power only comes every 200 years. The British Isles had a very poor response with little emergency services and help. Britain is used to constant cyclonic weather for the majority of the time and do not expect extreme weather conditions such as that of the hurricane season in the Gulf of Mexico.New Orleans had sufficient measures in place such as emergency shelters and services. - - How good the response is can be linked to how severe the impacts of the storm were. In the Great Storm of 1987 the response was very fast. The emergency services cleared the area as fast as they could clearing roads and highways. Many people volunteered themselves to clean up rubbish and objects off streets. High community spirit meant that the streets and litter was back to normal in no time. The response was fairly good by the British Isles but if it actually was a hurricane then the UK would have been more severely damaged. The response by the USA was planned evacuating the area before hand as they could see it coming, preparing food and medical supplies. However, it is the response after the hurricane that was extremely impressive. FEMA spent lots of money on rebuilding areas and providing tents, shelter, food amp; medicine to the homeless, preventing diseases. - - - - - - - - These responses greatly outweigh the British capability of responses, but although the British response to storms may not be as high severe as responses such as America, British storms are not as bad one like Hurricane Katrina. - In conclusion British responses are good enough for the size of storms the British Isles receives. The storm gave a valuable picture of what could possibly happen in the future. However, they do not indicate the likelihood of such future events. In order to fully assess the windstorm risk in the U. K, it is necessary to look not just at the footprints and associated losses of historical events, but als o at the losses generated by an exhaustive set of events that assign probabilities of occurrence to different windstorm depressions.
